Types Of Psychogenic/Psychosomatic Disorders

Psychogenic and psychosomatic disorders can be extremely debilitating, these types of disorders are believed to originate from the brain, the symptoms experienced by the individual are a result of a psychological state. In such instances, the brain may manifest disorders or symptoms that have no physiological cause.

Psychogenic and psychosomatic disorders are very similar in nature. However a person suffering from a psychosomatic disorder will tend to dismiss any claim that the symptoms are a result of a psychological nature and insist that that they have a physiological cause.  This does not necessarily  mean that there aren't any physical aspects of the disorder, in some cases it is the mental state of the individual that has contributed to or increased the strength of the symptoms.  Any individual who feels that they are suffering from such a disorder should seek advice from their GP.

It is the policy of Hollick Hypnotherapy that we will only assist clients in these areas where medical attention has been sought. The therapist may request permission to contact your GP prior to commencing therapy.
